Example of our Hiking programs Nordic Walking What is Nordic Walking?
The story of this activity dates back to a few decades ago, when some Finnish cross-country skiers decided to use their ski sticks for training during the summer months, performing the same basic movements of their sport but with a difference: on terrain with no snow. This was the beginning of Nordic Walking, a sport that comes from the cold and which, for many years, was only practised by athletes of the highest level. It was only in the early Nineties that Nordic Walking began to gain popularity throughout the ‘land of a thousand lakes’, going on to get a foothold all over Europe, where it has met with limitless success. In Italy, Nordic Walking is now one of the most popular fitness activities. The main characteristic of this sport consists of walking with sticks, simulating the most classical movement of cross-country skiing (the alternate stride) to create a movement that involves the arms and the muscles in the trunk, leading to a pace that is faster than usual.
Benefits This sport is obviously less difficult than running and more effective than a simple walk, reducing injuries to the joints of the lower limbs and helping to develop coordinated movement, but there’s more … The slightly forced pace has a beneficial effect on the heart and circulation and it involves a large part of the muscle system, developing and improving basic stamina. What’s more, since it increases oxygen consumption, it burns up more calories than other physical activities. And we shouldn’t forget the fact that it is therapeutic and often recommended in the prevention and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases, since it requires less effort and stress than running.
The Nordic Walking Park in the Val di Fiemme This Park extends from Lake Tesero to the Cermis cableway station at the bottom of the valley. 60 km of level or slightly sloping routes, immersed in nature. On the various routes, you will find illustrated charts to teach you the correct Nordic Walking posture as well as various warm-up exercises. In our Bien Vivre Hotels, at your disposal 2 ANWI certificated guides, weekly Nordic Walking courses and daily Nordic Walking excursions.
